Illustrator’s Workshop Oct. 12 in Doylestown

The Bucks County Book Festival has numerous events going on all throughout the weekend of Oct. 12-13 in Doylestown, among them an Illustrator’s Workshop, Writer’s Workshop, Lit Crawl and Open-air Book Market. The website explains all the events in more detail:

Please pass on news of the Illustrator’s Workshop to students, friends and fans of illustration. The workshop will be 3 hours on Saturday Oct. 12 from 9 to 12 p.m., at a beautifully designed new cooperative office space at Stack’s Company, 54 E. Oakland Ave., Doylestown. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here >>

“Bring your dry materials to this three-hour workshop perfect for the beginner or seasoned illustrator seeking guidance from well-respected professionals in their industry. Develop the skills every successful illustrator must master or sharpen existing skills and revisit your approach to illustration during workshop activities. 

Learn to promote and protect you work, learn illustration techniques from professional illustrators, and enjoy the opportunity to participate in the Children’s Book Cover Challenge.

This workshop is available to those 17 years or older. 

8:30 AM – 9:00 AM  -Registration and Book Cover Challenge placement. Coffee and tea available.

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM  – Learn to promote your business while protecting your intellectual property with a panel discussion with social media expert Beth Hauptle of High Five Marketing  ( and intellectual property expert Doug Ryder of Ryder, Mazzeo & Konieczny (

10:00 AM – 11:00 AM  – Learn with Lauren Walsh one of Bucks County’s most talented illustrators who is making a name for herself with portrait work created in a digital format. 11:00 AM -12:00 PM  – Join as the legendary Floyd Cooper leads this illustration session and teaches us one of the many fabulous techniques which has gained him numerous awards and honors for his work. Floyd’s rise as an author and illustrator is based on the foundation of ‘Giving kids a positive alternative to counteract the negative impact of what is conveyed in today’s media is a huge opportunity.” Follow him on Facebook.

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM  – Book Cover Challenge – get up and stretch a bit as we review and discuss the entries into the Book Cover Challenge. Illustration Workshop participants are given specs and invited to work on an illustrated children’s book cover prior to the weekend, and bring a printout of their cover for display and discussion in a friendly atmosphere among participating workshop illustrators
